Very Sexy Elena Satine to Play Mera (Aquaman's Wife) on SMALLVILLE

Apparently Geoff Johns has a thing for red-heads and particularly red-heads that swim.  Mera (Aquaman's wife) is everywhere in the DCU these days. She plays a major role in DC's flagship books, BLACKEST NIGHT and BRIGHTEST DAY. She has two action figures from DC Direct. The Queen of Atlantis also appeared on BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD. Now, Mera will appear on SMALLVILLE with her husband Aquaman.

Mera makes her live-action debut on “Smallville” in October, this from Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly. Apparently, when Aquaman appears again, he’ll have already married his extra-dimensional sweetheart. Mera is being played by Elena Satine, a Russian-born actress known stateside for stints in “Melrose Place."

Variant Cover to ACTION COMICS #894 - Luthor meets Gaiman's Death

We've been anxiously awaiting next month's issue of Action Comics because of a special guest star: Neil Gaiman's famous character Death.

Death is the second oldest of the Endless, and a major character in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, which, though neither Vertigo or DC mention it very often, is a part of the DC Universe. Apparently, she has a date with Lex Luthor.

Ok, not a literal date, but that would explain why she’s bringing him flowers. It would also niche nicely with the effect she has on any mortal she meets before their actual death: they fall in love with her.

According to The Source:  "Luthor, as fans of the series know, is in the midst of a storyline that takes him on a winding and dangerous quest for power – a quest that will bring the megalomaniacal villain into close proximity with characters in and beyond the far reaches of the DC Universe."

Up top is the VARIANT cover of Action Comics #894 by P. Craig Russell. AWESOME!

The Biggest Green Guy of Them All Set to Return In Green Lantern #61

Green Lantern #61 will his stands in December and will feature the return of one of the DC Universe's biggest bad asses - The Spectre.

In the official solicit for issue #61 from DC Comics they declare that:

BRIGHTEST DAY continues with the revelation of the identity of the cloaked figure that’s been collecting the Emotional Spectrum Entities! But how does its end goal involve the Butcher, the personification of rage? Plus, another being seeks the red entity – The Spectre! And he has no patience with his former host Hal Jordan, who happens to be in the way.

In the Blackest Night storyline, the Powers of the Spectre sparked the interest of the Red Lantern Corps leader Atrocitus, as he sensed the Spectre's real nature despite being influenced by the black ring at the time of their meeting.  He knew the Spectre was an embodiment of rage and vengeance.

Atrocitus wanted to harness the spirit's power for his Corps and his own vengeance against the Guardians of the Universe.  Parallax tore into the Black Lantern Spectre's body, freeing the real Spectre.  Atrocitus then attempted to turn the Spectre into his own rage entity, only to fail.  The Spectre then told him of the true rage entity, and warned him not to trifle with it.

Gfest thinks that the interaction between The Spectre, Hal Jordan, the rage entity and Atrocitus is nothing but interesting, and we can't wait for this issue.  Plus, we really love that cover.

DC Comics Unveils White Lantern Batman? What Does it Mean?

DC Comics released the following image today.  Its the cover to an upcoming issue of Brightest Day done by David Finch, but that's hardly the important part.

The important part is that you are looking at a White Lantern Version of Batman.  Those of you following Brightest Day know that the story involves the search for a new White Lantern.  But could it REALLY be Bruce Wayne?

Remember that in Blackest Night we were teased with a Black Lantern Batman that actually turned out to be a clone of Batman created by Darkseid and not Bruce Wayne himself.  Is this yet another cheap gimmick thrown at DC's readership in an effort to sell cool action figures, or does anyone actually believe that Bruce Wayne will return to become the permanent White Lantern?

GREEN LANTERN #59: Includes Exclusive Reveal for GREEN LANTERN Film

As if anyone needs reason to buy Geoff John's GREEN LANTERN comic book.  The comic itself is one of the best books on the market and has been since he took over and begin piecing together his story (HAL JORDAN SECRET ORIGIN, SINESTRO CORP. WAR, BLACKEST NIGHT and BRIGHTEST DAY).

Now you have another reason to pick up the  comic book.  GREEN LANTERN #59 will include an exclusive first look at a member of the GREEN LANTERN CORPS from the 2011 live action GREEN LANTERN film.
I wonder if each monthly issue of GREEN LANTERN will feature an exclusive reveal as we move closer to Summer 2011.  Who do you think will be the first character revealed in October in GREEN LANTERN #59?

Guy Gardner Cast for the Biggest Loser

Now that Blackest Night is over, Guy Gardner is on a secret mission.  Judging from the picture above, it looks like Guy Gardner might be on a misson to become the next Mogo?

Guy Gardner is nobody's favorite Green Lantern.  Usually that's a recipe for disaster in the world of comic books.  It usually means that you just moved to the top of the getting killed list in the next major event that your comic book company dreams up.  Or you could just eat yourself to death, which would be original.

Thanks to SerioJalNC for the art.

SPOILER ALERT - THIS Major DC Comics Superhero Will Become White Lantern

DC Comics has a history of letting the advertisements for their related merchandise spoil the stories in the comic books themselves.  If you remember, many people first learned that Martian Manhunter J'onn J'onnz was going to become a Black Lantern because of the ad for his action figure put out by DC Direct.

Well, they've done it again.  This time its the folks at Heroclix, who put out some teasers for their new line celebrating DC Comics 75th Anniversary.  Heroclix has really done a tremedous job in capitalizing on the Blackest Night and Brightest Day events by releasing sets very quickly.

So who is set to become a White Lantern?  The answer is Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow.

Now Green Arrow was a White Lantern for a couple of pages in Blackest Night as well, and while that was a cool moment, I don't think that moment alone gets you a heroclix, but maybe I'm wrong.

What I do know is that at the end of the most recent issue of Green Arrow, we see Oliver Queen laying on the ground near the tree with the White Lantern Symbol. He also coincidently has an arrow shot directly through his skull. That's hard to recover from, even if you have a good health care plan.

So, right now he is dead, but I don't really think he's going to stay that way?  Do you?

So instead you bring back Green Arrow in the next issue -- as a White Lantern.

Is this yet another case of the tail wagging the dog, and scooping the story with related merchandise advertising?  Seems like it to me.  This doesn't seem like a hard problem to solve, but it seems that DC Comics is having a very hard time figuring it out lately.  Hopefully that changes soon.

FIRST LOOK: BRIGHTEST DAY #7 - Why "the 12" Came Back

Geoff Johns promised that the answer to why "the 12" were resurrected at the end of BLACKEST NIGHT would be revealed in BRIGHTEST DAY #7.  This series, thus far, has been a disappointment for me.  I was hoping for a weekly series on par with 52, but unfortunately it has not lived up that standard.  I am not giving up on this series because Johns and Tomasi are two of the best writers in comics.  Let's hope the "big reveal" on Wednesday gives this story the boost it needs to keep all our interests.  Enjoy the preview of BRIGHTEST DAY #7 below.

Geoff Johns' Brightest Day Teases from Comic Con

Taking San Diego and Comic Con by storm, Geoff Johns has droped several interesting clues about the upcomming events of Brightest Day.  Here are the best:

Johns is hinting there may be a connection between Blackest Night and the Lazarus pits.  You'll also see an appearance by Batman in Brightest Day.

Like he's planning a Larfleeze Christmas special, Johns says there will be a Dex-Starr Valentine's Day special that will see the long awaited Dex-Starr/Krypto fight.

Ivan Ries is going to draw another Green Lantern Secret Origins, and it will feature Sinestro.

The question Hal was supposed to ask Sinestro in Rage of the Red Lanterns will finally get asked sometime this year.

The Indigo Tribe will show up in Green Lantern #59 and we'll learn more about them and see Black Hand.

There will be consequences for Mogo and all those Black Lanterns buried inside him.

A series is planned to follow up on "Blackest Night" and "Brightest Day" which Johns already has a name for, although he didn't reveal it.

When the White Ring creates a construct it's there forever.

There will be a White Lantern oath revealed in Brightest Day.

Carol Ferris has a pretty major change in Green Lantern #57.

FIRST LOOK: DC Direct BRIGHTEST DAY Action Figures

In March 2011, DC DIRECT will kick off another series of high-quality and story-specific product, this time based around the hit biweekly series, BRIGHTEST DAY. Here ist a first look at the first two waves, which include Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Deadman, Aquaman, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Firestorm and Mera.

As an obsessed action figure collector, I am surprisingly lukewarm about the BRIGHTEST DAY line.   The story thus far has been in my opinion, less than engaging so I have hard time purchasing a bunch of characters I could in all honesty give a shit about.  I mean come on who is going to shell out money to purchase Mera?

The Sexiest Star Sapphire Costume Ever Created

Gfest is willing to declare this to be the best Star Sapphire costume ever created, in the history of mankind.  It's also the sexiest.  I'm not even sure Carol Ferris looked this good wearing the costume.

When Geoff Johns was designing the costume for the Star Sapphires leading up to Blackest Night, he had to be hoping that someday he would run into hundreds of hot chicks wearing these while running around at Comic Con.  Geoff Johns once again proves his genious.

DC Announcement: Black Lanterns Return in October

DC did not release any details with this beautiful David Finch Cover.  Is it a Halloween one-shot or is it something more related to BRIGHTEST DAY or the DCU as a whole. We will just have to enjoy this wonderful art and wait until October to find out additional details.
