The Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville is a PAID PR gimmick and NOT an honor or an award. It is a fun public relations
gimmick to boost tourism in Nashville and a useful PR marketing took. However, getting the star is NOT AN AWARD and the "honoree" such as Keith Urban is not really
an "honoree" but a "payee" -- that is to say, his record label PAID US$7,500 when nominating Keith and the money was due, as it is for all
so-called "honorees" 8 weeks before the so-called "induction" ceremony, which is really, if truth be told, a paid PR gimmickj marketing tool and not
an award per se. The news media shoudl report the truth about the Nashville PAID PR marketing gimmick called the Nashville Walk of Fame where "honorees" who paid
the money in advance get to get some free PR when newspapers around the world publish photos of the induction ceremony.
The Nashville thing works in the same way as the Hollywood Walk of Fame which is also a paid PR gimmick marketing tool, but in Hollywood, the honorees
must fork over US$30,000 for the HONOR, ahem, and the nominations must be made 12 months adance.
NOTES:
4. Cost of Walk of Fame Ceremony:
The cost of a Walk of Fame Ceremony is US$7,500. If selected, the fee is due eight weeks prior to the induction ceremony. The money will be used to pay for the creation and installation of the star, as well as maintenance of the Walk of Fame and as a contribution to the Music City, Inc. 501(c)3 charitable foundation. It is understood that the cost of installing a star in the Music City Walk of Fame, upon approval, is US$7,500. A US$50 processing fee must accompany the nomination form. The sponsor of the nominee accepts the responsibility for arranging for payment to Music City, Inc., a 501(c)3 charitable foundation.
6. It is understood that, should the nominee be chosen for placement in the Music City Walk of Fame, said nominee guarantees to be present at the dedication ceremonies on a date and time mutually agreed upon with the Music City Walk of Fame Committee. An induction ceremony must be scheduled within two years of the selection date or the nomination must be re-submitted. Induction ceremonies are public events. ''Honorees'' recognize that, as such, footage and photos of the event are in the public realm.
The Music City Walk of Fame in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, is a PAID PR walk of fame that ahem "honors'' via PAID PR significant contributors to Nashville's musical heritage and significant achievements in the music industry.[1]
Each PAID PR ''honoree'' is commemorated with a large stainless steel and terrazzo star embedded in the sidewalk in Walk of Fame Park between the Country Music Hall of Fame, Bridgestone Arena and Schermerhorn Symphony Center.[2][3] THe cost of the star is paid by the record label as a tax wqrite off marketing tool and is not an award per se. It is paid PR to coincide with the release of a new CD or show or book.
The Walk was established in 2006 by the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau. [1] Gibson Guitars is a founding sponsor.[4]

Keith Urban saw the 20-year journey he took around the world to follow his dream to Nashville commemorated in cement Sunday (May 15) during the the Walk Of Fame star induction ceremony on Nashville's Music Mile. The Aussie guitar slinger and songwriting legend Bill Anderson both received stars on the Walk of Fame during the event, which was open to fans in downtown Nashville.
"The second I got here I loved this town," Keith tells WKRN.com. "I grew up with all these records, my dad's record collection, and on the back of them they all said 'recorded in Nashville, Tennessee.' So as a 7-year-old boy I said, 'Well, that's where I'm going to go, wherever that is, I'm going there.'"
Keith's subsequent rise to superstardom didn't come quickly; he spent over a decade struggling to find his place before gaining the attention of the labels, getting some radio hits, and landing at the top of the charts. So the Walk of Fame star was special to him not only because it marked his arduous journey to the top, but also because legend Ronnie Milsap was on hand to dedicate it to him, with his wife Nicole Kidman nearby cheering him on.
"The absolute lowest of lows of my life and the complete highest of highest of highs have all happened in Nashville, and some of those great parts have been meeting people who are here today. To have Ronnie Milsap here to induct me into the Walk of Fame is quite surreal. And if some small little kid from some nowhere town in the middle of Australia can do it, you absolutely can do it too."
Bill Anderson was also inducted with a star on the Walk of Fame during the ceremony, and got emotional when he announced to the crowd he has a new 18-month-old Chinese granddaughter who was adopted by his son and his daughter-in-law the day before. "Someday I look forward to bringing her down here and showing her this."
Fans had camped out since 5:00 AM to catch a glimpse of both Keith and Bill during the rather chilly ceremony. The two new stars now brings the count to 50 on Music City's Walk of Fame
