When I was pregnant with Jocelyn, people told me that, knowing me and Scott, our kid would definitely be smart. Both he and I feel we're not as intelligent as we get credit for, but we certainly have a smart child. To a whole new level sometimes.
Take today, for instance. After her nap, I gave her a small bowl of Nilla Wafers as a snack. When there were four more in the bowl, she held it out, looked at me and asked, "More?"
I told her, "No, you have to finish those and then you can have more."
Pause.
Cookie shoved in mouth.
Pause.
Cookie shoved in mouth.
Pause.
Pick up a cookie, turn and give it to me. "Mommy." I take it, smile, and say, "Thank you, sweetheart."
Pause.
She picks up the next cookie, looks at Scott and holds it out to him. He thanks her, as well.
Without missing a beat, she holds up the bowl and asks, "More?"
Yep, she got me. It was intelligent. And yes, she got more.
Shoot, in another couple months, she'll be able to do the calculus homework I struggled with so much my freshman year of college.
