Talking about Death in US and UK

Many people in the US and the UK feel uncomfortable when talking about death, and when someone has died, people sometimes say they "have passed away" or "passed on " to avoid mentioning death directly.
People also say that someone is "gone" or "no longer with us" to mean that they have died. People in the US and the UK also have many expressions for joking about death. Humorous phrases meaning 'to die' include:

• kick the bucket
• croak (esp. Am. English)
• pop your clogs (Br. English)

Anyway, it is considered very offensive to use these expressions.
When someone dies, people send cards and letters to their family, and flowers for the grave. Sometimes the family asks to give money to a charity in memory of the person who has died.
